Sri Lanka’s tea-growing hills offer breathtaking landscapes. The little England called Nuwara Eliya is situated in top level of central highlands in Sri Lanka. Drive through central highlands is most dramatic. A land of gurgling mountain streams and steep hills cloaked with lush green tea, sweet-scented Cyprus and Eucalyptus trees are giving attraction to this mountainous area. The lake Gregory is one of the colonial historic land mark in the city area and evening walk of the Gregory Park is fascinating experience.
It is supposed to be one of the coolest places in the Island, but it is really just like an English spring day, although the temperature does drop at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influenced houses like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions. The Victoria Park, in the middle of the town, is a lovely place for a stroll or a picnic. It is also good for Birding as you get some rare birds in this Park. Seasons may be absent elsewhere in Sri Lanka. But here it read by the flowers, which bloom in the spring (March to May) and the fall (August and September).
Horton Plains National Park is a protected area in the central highlands Near Nuwara Eliya. It is a part of World heritage site of central highlands covered by montane grassland and cloud forest. Lush green tea grooving hills and vegetable plantations, cloudiest rain forest reserves, adventure with water fall abseiling giving totally different experience through visiting Sri Lanka.
